About Me

I wanted to make this page a little more personal and take a quick second to talk about myself. Below you'll find a quick bio of myself and an introduction video.

A Little About Me

Hello all! My name is David Goldblatt. As mentioned on my home page, I am a third year business economics student and hopeful business management (pending my application is accepted for my double major request) at the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. But, where did I come from and why am I where I'm at right now?

For starters, I was originally born on the east coast in Aiken, South Carolina and spent the first 9 years of my life growing up in the small town of Spruce Pine, North Carolina in the Appalachian Mountains, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. When I was in the sixth grade, my family and I moved across country to Winnemucca, Nevada where I finished my public schooling. I graduated from Albert M. Lowry High School in 2018 as my class' valedictorian with a perfect 4.03 GPA.

Before I even graduated from high school, however, I knew my next steps would be at the University of Arizona. I chose the University because my grandfather was an alumni, and because I was awarded the Arizona Excellence Award, a scholarship worth $140,000.

Originally, I came to the University to study film theory, as my ultimate goal was to become a director and screenwriter. However, as time went on, I changed my major several times during my first two years at Arizona. I went from film to computer science and then to data science. I admittedly felt entirely lost and I didn't know what I wanted to study and do at the University. That all changed, however, when I took Econ 200 with Professor Dirk Mateer.

Econ 200, though a very basic overview of economic concepts, set me on a course to discover my interest and passion in studying economics. I felt as though I finally found a part of myself, and I applied for the Eller College of Management in the spring of 2020, being admitted to Eller in the Fall 2020 cohort.

Being at Eller has been an incredible experience, both in terms of the people and professors I have met, but also in the knowledge I have gained personally and about my career field. When I finish here at Eller, I will know that I was prepared for the future.

Speaking of, when I graduate from Eller in the spring of 2022, I plan to immediately go into a PhD in economics, specifically studying markets, market inequalities, and poverty. I plan on attending either Standford University, the University of Wisonsin at Madison, or the University of Michigan while doing so. After I finish that degree, I hope to work for the U.N., helping people across the globe who are struggling in poverty. I greatly admire Dr. Jeffery Sachs, and hope to work alongside him in the future.

Moreover, I also want my knowledge of business to be put to use here, as well as abroad. I want to become a professor who tours different college campuses, teaching young people and especially those without privilege and the disenfranchised about personal economic security. I also want to help tackle homeless and poverty here in the United States, and plan on launching a clothing brand where every item purchased is matched with that exact same item donated to someone who needs it.

I believe that we have the potential and power to end poverty in our generation and lifetime, and plan to do anything and everything I can do to help this dream become a reality. As Nelson Mandela once said, "[like] slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is manmade, and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. And overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice."
